Taylor Swift set a new benchmark at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the most-awarded artist in VMA history. She won multiple awards, including Best Direction for “Opalite,” Video of the Year for “The Fate of Ophelia,” and the inaugural Artist Director Honors.

While accepting the awards, Swift left one important person out of her speeches: Travis Kelce. The couple has dominated headlines since they started dating in 2023, and their star-studded wedding at New York City’s iconic Madison Square Garden is one of 2026’s biggest celebrity moments. That said, why would the “Love Story” singer not give her husband a shout-out?

According to Hollywood insider Rob Shuter, Swift deliberately left Kelce out of her speeches because she “knows America needs a little break” from them.

“Taylor reads the room better than almost anyone,” a source explained to Naughty But Nice. “The wedding was enormous, the coverage became overwhelming and she felt the beginnings of Taylor-and-Travis fatigue. She knows when to pull back.”

Another insider emphasized that Swift “adores” Kelce, but the Kansas City Chiefs tight end “doesn’t need to become the headline every time she walks into a room.” They added, “Taylor knows fascination can turn into fatigue very quickly. She isn’t hiding her marriage. She’s protecting it from becoming overexposed.”

Swift also attended the VMAs solo, as Kelce had prior work commitments. The Chiefs were in Florida for a game against the Miami Dolphins; it started at 1:00 p.m. ET, making it impossible for Kelce to travel to Los Angeles for the show.

Although Shuter reassured Swifties that there’s no marriage trouble, other sources previously told The Daily Mail that Swift is becoming increasingly “frustrated” in their marriage. Since exchanging vows in July 2026, the pop star and NFL player have barely seen each other due to their hectic schedules.

“She is frustrated because football is taking up so much of his time – he works overtime – causing them to not see each other a ton, and she would like more,” one insider claimed. “Travis being in training camp has meant she has had to go out alone. They do not see each other every single day, but they see each other every single week – they are very dedicated to that.”

The insider revealed that the billionaire music icon “misses their morning workout sessions and cooking together,” adding that Swift “loves having her hunky man by her side, holding her hand and opening doors for her, watching out for her. He makes her feel not just loved, but also protected. She is so madly in love that she wants to spend more time with Travis.”

However, the “Patient Zero” singer knows Kelce is “putting in the hours because he wants to be his very best this season,” and she refuses to get in the way of his career.

“She refuses to complain about his absence because she knew what she signed up for, she knew he would be at practice after they got married,” the insider continued. “She knew the honeymoon would be short so she can’t complain at all, and she doesn’t want to guilt Travis. That is not her deal, she never shames or complains. She wants to support him so he can do his best this season.”

Despite often spending time apart, Swift and Kelce always make time for each other. The source shared that they “talk on the phone all the time, and text, FaceTime, all of it.”

“They just deal with it,” they continued. “They know they both have massive careers, and they love what they do, so they give each other freedom.”
